Hua Nian is a Chinese-born artist and educator whose professional background bridges photojournalism, art education, and studio practice. Prior to relocating to the United States, she taught photojournalism at Jinan University in Guangzhou. She received a Master of Arts in Art Education from Pittsburg State University, Kansas, in 1996. Hua Nian currently resides in Champaign–Urbana, Illinois, where she is an active exhibiting artist and art instructor. Her work is widely represented in public and private collections throughout the United States.
Her paintings have been exhibited extensively in international and national venues and have received awards at the local, state, and national levels. Hua Nian’s work has been discussed and reproduced in American Artist Magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times, Dialogue: An Art Journal, and in numerous American and Chinese newspapers and periodicals. In addition, her artwork has been commissioned and reproduced as cover imagery for books, music CDs, and posters by institutions such as Stanford University and the University of Illinois.
She is married to composer Stephen Taylor, and they have two adult children engaged in scientific research focused on bees and birds.
